چکیده
Abstract Convulsive status epilepticus is the most serious manifestation of an epileptic diathesis. In early stages (5–30 min), there exists class A evidence to support efficacy benzodiazepines as first-line treatment. As progresses into later stages, for treatment becomes less robust until we are depending upon short case series and reports refractory epilepticus. However, past year saw publication three randomized controlled trials in setting benzodiazepine-resistant established convulsive epilepticus: EcLiPSE ConSEPT studies, compared levetiracetam phenytoin children; ESETT study fosphenytoin, sodium valproate adults children. addition, emergence data from SENSE study, a multicentre multinational prospective cohort systematic review meta-analysis mortality over 30 years, has brought sharp focus. this update provide detailed analysis these studies their impact on clinical practice. We contentious areas management where consensus lacking advance more research existing alternative strategies.

FIVE YEARS AFTER THE INSTITUTE of Medicine (IOM) reported that as many as 98 000 people die annually as the result of medical errors and called for a national effort to make health care safe, it is time to assess our progress. Is health care safer now? And, if not, why not? The IOM’s report, To Err Is Human: Building a Safer Health System, galvanized a dramatically expanded level of conversatio...
متن کاملAetiology and outcome of generalized convulsive status epilepticus in elderly
PURPOSE Convulsive status epilepticus (CSE) is a common neurologic emergency in elderly people. The current study elaborates the clinical characteristics and outcome of CSE in elderly patients. METHODS Analysis of data of generalized CSE patients, aged 60 years and above admitted at the neurointensive care unit (NICU) was performed. The primary outcome for analysis was in-hospital mortality. ...
متن کاملPathophysiology of Ischemia/Reperfusion-induced Myocardial Injury: What We Have Learned From Preconditioning and Postconditioning?
Organ damage after reperfusion of previously viable ischemic tissues is defined as ischemia/reperfusion injury. The pathophysiology of ischemia/reperfusion injury involves cellular effect of ischemia, reactive oxygen species and inflammatory cascade. Protection against ischemia/reperfusion injury may be achieved by preconditioning or postconditioning. In this review, we discuss basic mechan...
